Scent is one of the senses that can be attuned to spirits and the supernatural. Largely the domain of supernatural trackers and hunters, scent can give clues as to what beings have recently been in an area, after they've passed.

Spiritual scents have specific qualities to them that can be used to narrow down what beings have been nearby.

Detectable Qualities

The following are catalogued qualities and their associated qualities of scent.

Humanity

-Cured leather, cut grass, mud.

-Coal, wood smoke, machine oil, cooked meat.

--This has been a recent change in the nature of Humanity's scent; previously they smelled much more like beasts.

Undeath

-Wet moss, old dirt, bone dust.

-Decay, rotting meat, mushrooms.

--While all 'death' smells of these things, undeath smells particularly pungent and 'aggressive'.

Demonic

-Foul cooked meat. Not just rotten, but cooking rotten.

-Acrid smoke, sulfur, brimstone.

--Sulfur in particular is so strong that even non-spirutally sensitive noses can catch a hint.

Angelic

-Vanilla, Apple, Wine.

-Hints of incense, Frankincense.

-Warm quality, not unlike a bakery. Those who smell angelic presences describe them as more pleasant than dealing with angels themselves.

Youth

-Sugar, cinnamon, sweet spices.

-Berries, sweet fruits, candy.

Maturity

-Nuts, salt, sea water.

-Fresh baked bread, melted butter.

-Hot Tea, Coffee.

Advanced Age

-Old leather, musk, moth dust.

-Burnt food, overripe fruit.

-Liquor, with increasing intensity with age.

-Ripe cheeses.
